Urgent Eye Care Services in Primary Care
We are pleased to inform you that CUES – the urgent eyecare service in primary care, developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is live in South West London. It has replaced the local minor eye conditions service (MECS).
CUES is commissioned by South West London CCG and, as with MECS, is provided by local optical practices via the optometry federation Primary Eyecare Services, with the support of Kingston Richmond & Twickenham and Merton, Sutton & Wandsworth Local Optical Committees. It is for all patients registered with a GP practice in Kingston, Richmond, Merton, Sutton or Wandsworth CCG areas
The primary aim of the Service is to ensure people can access urgent eyecare within primary care, using the established trained workforce in optical practices. This is important to reduce demand on primary care and hospital eye services during the pandemic particularly.
The Service provides initial contact, telephone triage, remote consultations and where necessary face-to-face assessment, providing management of recent onset symptomatic or urgent ocular presentations.
